BLAKENEY JUNI🎾R PROGRAMS
SCHOOL YEAR
(We follow the Union County School Calendar)
Red Ball (4-8 years old)
These Students will learn all of the skills required to rally with a partner. They will learn how to start a point with underhand toss and overhead serve.
*Skills Needed Before Advancing to Orange Ball
- Student can send and receive on both sides off the bounce and out of the air.
- Student can rally consistently 8 balls or more with recovery, balance, and moderate technique.
- Student can start a point with an overhead serve.
- Student can control depth and direction of the ball.
Orange Ball (8 – 10 years old)
These Students will develop basic to moderate/advanced rallying skills from the 60 ft. court baseline. Â They will learn how to start a point with both an underhand and overhead serve.
*Before Advancing to Green Ball     Â
- Student can achieve all movements and rally with balance.          Â
- Student can control depth and direction from the baseline.                 Â
- Student can play all parts of the court including baseline, mid-court and net with moderate technique on: forehand, backhand, serve and volley.                          Â
- Student can rally 10 balls or more.
Green Ball (11-12 years old)
Students will develop basic to moderate/advanced techniques and rallying skills on a 78ft. court from the baseline. They will learn how to start a point with an overhead serve and technical fundamentals for mid-court and net play.
*Before Advancing to Regular Ball/Teen Class
- Student should be able to play a rally starting with proper serve technique and grip.
- Student should be able to control direction, depth and spin from the baseline.
- Student should have the ability to play all parts of the court including mid-court and net with proper grips, footwork and fundamentals.
- Student can rally 12 balls or more.
- Student will graduate by age 13 to teen class if they don’t meet the requirements for BTA II
Regular Ball/Teen Class (13 and up)
Students are new to the game and still learning the basics of tennis and is not ready for BTA III. They can play USTSA Junior Team Tennis (JTT) and level 7 USTA tournaments. This class will work on technique to make sure the right foundation is in place.Â
*Before Advancing to BTA III
- Student should be able to play a rally starting with proper serve technique and grip.
- Student should be able to control direction, depth and spin from the baseline.
- Student should have the ability to play all parts of the court including mid-court and net with proper grip, footwork and fundamentals.
- Student can rally 12 balls or more.

BLAKENEY TENNIS ACADEMY REQUIREMENTS (BTA)
Please email Coach Berhe at berhe@blakeneyclub.com with all questions regarding qualifications to make sure your child is in the correct group.
BTA III (age 10+ UTR 1-1.9)
For those students who are playing USTA level 6 and 7 tournaments with UTR 1-1.9.Â
Students must be able to hit top spin on both sides of ground strokes and also be able to serve flat, slice and start topspin serve before graduating to move BTA II.Â
BTA II (10+) UTR 2-4.9
Students are on track to play high level high school or college tennis.
Commitment of 2 days a week
* If your UTR is not a 2.0 but you have beat two students in this group in a recent tournament or beat them in a challenge match you will be accepted.
Mandatory to play at least one USTA/UTR tournament a month.
Private Lesson: Important for student to progress.
10 & Under: Ranking must be top 25 in the state in the 10 & Under Division.
*Before Advancing to BLAKENEY Tennis Academy
Students must have a UTR 4.9 or higher or be able to beat two students in (BTA I) in a tournament or challenge match.
BTA I (12+) UTR 5 and up
Higher level at BLAKENEY
Students are on track to play college tennis.
Commitment of 2 days a week
UTR level 5.0+
* If your UTR is not a 5.0, but you have beat two students in this group in a recent tournament or beat them in a challenge match you will be accepted.
Mandatory to play at least one USTA/UTR tournament a month. Suggested to play two tournaments a month.
